Picture: Jimmy Carter receives the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo
The contrast between the not so new President elect, Donald Trump, his stances, attitudes, campaign, and effects, and the former President Jimmy Carter, and all he stood for and did, is a very great one indeed. I look to and feature here, the following description by the man who inspires this Forum, Sir Peter Ustinov, writing some years ago, on President and then for many years already former President Carter…
“…he was by his own admission, not a terribly effective President, but he made astonishing contributions after he’d finished being President, with an organisation that is far more efficient than the State department or the Pentagon. He has a think tank in the local university, which is devoted entirely to his studies of people. When he went to Haiti for Clinton, and to Bosnia later, he was given a full briefing by his university about local customs, local prejudices, things that the State department never really bothers to do. So he was very well informed and astonished the locals.”
