Very Aware

Painting: “The Release”  By Lanechka Fevola

There is a need to say a great many things about the great work that we here and elsewhere are committed to, here and elsewhere. The fight against prejudice is not over. The battles have been fought and won but there is a war on and the peace has not been declared, for it has not prevailwd.

The prejudices based on race have stood out to all who are decent, as needing allies and ending hatreds. Those based on gender have been found wanting as one half ,or more than half, the human race have become empowered. The sexual orientation of individuals, has become unremarkable to most, those individuals being accepted and celebrated as remarkable for who they are as individuals, not for whom they love or sleep with. Every one of these aspects of prejudice to some extent is there yet, but quieter, present amongst us, but lesser.

There is  prejudice that has grown, it is the predicament of the disabled, the unwell, the poor, the unheard. Any who are vulnerable, without status based on management, without riches based on money, these are those who are traduced yet, ignored mostly. But many of us who have known such a state ourselves, are very aware of it, falling by the wayside isolated, or clinging to each other even as we are fighting to be equal. To know the challenges of being left out, is to know the solutions to being left so. The Good Samaritan does not pass by on the other side. In an age of supposed connection, few really connect. It is time we all did so more. An unequal world has within it the desperate with a desperate need for healing the condition they are suffering from, the situation they are struggling with. Here is a prejudice we shall work against further, shout about louder. This is our task.
